They have taken
so much
I am standing
now
somewhere
at the end of a road
which leads to a beach
beside a sea
that a million ghosts
keep crossing
Poetry Nerds:
I wrote all morning from about 6:30 to 1pm, working on a single poem. There are four different Word documents that the poems revisions reside in. This is a time lapse of two of the revisions. It probably comprises about half of the actual work time all together. The early part of the video is about one fifth way through. The latter part of the video (where the lines are longer) is the last revision session, probably about three hours of work. There were two .docs and revision sessions in between. The poem is still in progress. But it might give some folks a (vague) sense of my process.
January Lit: "Dangerous Poems" by Patrick Rosal →
We bring you a poem about poems (but also not about poems) by Patrick Rosal for the first lit feature of the new year.
I wrote this poem in the summer of 2012, after two unarmed New Yorkers were shot by the police within 24 hours — Reynaldo Cuevas and Walwyn Jackson. I was thinking of Amadou Diallo. I was trying to make sense of what we think of as public competence.
Mead: The Magazine of Literature & Libations →
“Poetry, translations, interviews, essays, and commentary. A fully-stocked bar of words. Imbibe well!”
I have a new prose poem up at Mead. Thanks to Paul Lisicky for taking it. It’s a myth about power and building things from ruin.
